Wow. What an immediate character reference and game changer. Much has been said over the past few years about what Linkedin is and what it can do for your professional networking. While I am on Linkedin regularly and use it for my own business purposes, recently I made a business call on one company and very quickly got to speak with the decision maker. Within the first 30 seconds of speaking with him, he commented he was looking on my linkedin page and can see who I am and what I’ve done in the past. Moral of the story – Even if you don’t want to bother with linked in, others do and if youre not on it or presenting yourself in a manner like you want presented, you just might be harming your chances of selling your product or service, getting a job or just plain expanding your professional network.

Well, as you can tell by my lack of posts, I have been extremely busy lately but wanted to share a recent success story with you. One of the companies we consult with on how to improve their internet traffic, recently told me of their most recent success. It is a law firm near Houston and this attorney used to market solely by conducting mail-outs to get his business. Well after multiple discussions, I finally convinced him to properly invest in his business by updating his law firm’s web site and making it SEO friendly. His site was constructed utilizing all the principles you find here at Viral DesignZ (proper blog design, a great website design that can also provides numerous ecommerce solutions, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), etc..) and the improvement in his business has been remarkable. Well, he committed to improving his online presence and within two months was #2 and #3 in the local google searches and today – just four months after his site has been completed, he is passively generating greater business from his web site then he was from his very expensive and wasteful mail campaigns. In fact, this young attorney is so happy that he recently decided to change the focus of his practice to personal injury and has committed to redoing his website at twice his original investment in order to transition into this much more productive area of law. Well, I hope you are because there are almost three BILLION people accessing the Internet right now. Thats right, thats 3 BILLION people. Now is that an enourmous market of potential clients or what? In order to have a chance at reaching them, you need to make it easy for them to find you. Many people think just because they put up a website, then the business will come (sorry, but sort of like the old line from A Field of Dreams). Unfortunately, that is more of a fairy tale then reality. In reality, you need to think of the Internet being like all the oceans of the world being linked together and imagine your website/presence as being like one shell in all that water. Well if thats the case, how is it possible for others to find you and your product/service/interest? Well, just as the oceans has names, the Internet has rules. Like the oceans names (Atlantic, Indian, Pacific Oceans…..) the Internet has keywords – (Tampa Real Estate, Tampa Marketing, Tampa Builders, etc…). That is obviously a simple example but the take away is if you want to be successful on the web, you need to understand the rules or better yet, have someone working with you who does.
